EUROGLAS stirs up the solar glass market

EUROGLAS is launching a new era in glass manufacturing. In May 2009, EUROGLAS will commence manufacturing solar glass in Haldensleben to service the rapidly expanding market for solar technology. Top quality glass with high energy transmission will be refined in the manufacturing facility that is currently under construction.

Construction of the manufacturing facility began at the end of September 2008. It will be over 200 metres long and 70 metres wide. More than 400 tonnes of glass will be manufactured per day for use in the solar industry. The plant covers an area of 15,000 square metres and employs state-ofthe-art technology.

The market for renewable energy is the market of the future. New technologies for manufacturing solar glass are part of this trend and ensure cost-effective production.

As well as the new processing plant, other large-scale projects are at the planning stage. A further float glass facility will have two production lines and a patterned glass basin. This guarantees a ten-fold increase in white float glass production, in order to meet the growing demand of the solar market. In addition, the main plant in Haldensleben will be extended by a patterned glass production line for solar glass applications. At the same time, daily output will more than double.

EUROGLAS is one of Europe's largest glass manufacturers. It was founded in 1993 with the merger of five independent, medium-sized glass-processing companies. The three EUROGLAS manufacturing facilities in Haldensleben and Osterweddingen in Germany as well as Hombourg in France engage 650 employees and manufacture float glass, extra white float glass for solar markets, laminated safety glass, fire-resistant glass and coated glass for applications in thermal and sun protection.
