New Multifunctional Complex, the San Stefano Plazza

In Bulgaria's capital Sofia a new Multifunctional Complex, the San Stefano Plazza, was built. The complex should preserve the spirit and memory of the former Proshek Beer Brewery and at the same time serve as an up-to-date cultural city complex. BAUER Bulgaria EOOD was awarded the design and execution of the retaining structure.
The design comprises four levels of underground parking spaces, i.e. a maximum depth of up to 18.5 m had to be realized - a novelty in Bulgaria as it is the deepest one ever excavated there.

As the project site is located in the city centre, the Bauer team was faced with logistic difficul-ties and limited working shifts. The retaining structure was produced in three phases. In phase 1 piles of 880 mm dia. were produced using the BGs 36 and 28. Prior to the start of excava-tion works, a capping beam was attached in phase 2.
Finally, 835 nos. of temporary multi strand anchors with a length of up to 20.0 m were installed.
