Lombardini becomes part of the KOHLER group

Kohler is one of the biggest private companies in the United States and its numerous business activities include ceramics, furnishing, hotel chains, engines and power units.

Lombardini forms part of the most recent division, Global Power Group. Thanks to its position as a strong market leader, third in the world, in its own sector from 0 to 50 kw diesel engines will make a significant contribution to the growth of the group. Partnership and integration will be the characteristics of this merger. Kohler manufactures and markets single and twin-cylinder gasoline engines worldwide, with a power range from 4 to 38 HP and is one of the best-known names in the States for its wide variety of engines, particularly those in the Lawn and Garden division.

Lombardini manufactures and markets single and multi-cylinder diesel engines with a range of from 0 to 50 kW which can be used in machinery in different sectors (agriculture, industry, electrics, building, automobile and marine). The skills acquired by both companies will contribute jointly to the growth in know-how of the group. Their partnership will also extend to the distribution network. The strong presence each of them has in their own market, Kohler in the United States, Lombardini in Europe with four sales branches in France, Spain, Germany and the UK, will provide an impressive business operation which will benefit both. Finally, entering developing markets will close the circle for a group which seems ready to redefine the history of the engine.

Especially for the construction sector, Lombardini has developed its own 15 LD range of air-cooled, single cylinder engines in a silenced version. This single cylinder range, with power from 3.5 to 8.8 kW at 3,600 rpm, has thus been completed with models 15 LD 225/S, 15 LD 350/S and 15 LD 440/S and is the most complete series in this category available on the market. The silenced models feature a new injection and combustion system integrated into the engine, which reduces noise levels down to four decibels (tested on a power unit without muffler) without affecting weight or size.

The one-directional injection pumps and the multi-hole flow control injectors ensure optimal combustion even at low temperatures and also reduce emissions. The hydraulic rocker arms fitted on models 15 LD 400/440/440S contribute further to noise reduction as well as being an important improvement for maintenance purposes. Finally, the carefully chosen materials over the entire range of single cylinder engines; those used in the cylinder block with integrated cylinder, in the die-cast aluminium base, in the integral cast iron liner and in the aluminium alloy head, finish off an engine which is extremely robust.

All these characteristics make model 15 LD the ideal engine and the right solution for equipping all small machinery for use in road compaction: vibrating plates, roller presses, asphalt cutters, concrete mixers and minidumpers.

The 15 LD series has a range of accessories: different PTOs, air filters, electric starters, accelerator control and remote stop, single lever controls and a large capacity oil tank. Some of these are particularly recommended for construction. The timer is the ideal solution for rental. The starter housing and the air filter clogging sensor can protect the engine from the large quantity of dust present on building sites.
